Institute of Chinese Studies Studies
The Chinese Studies program at Heidelberg University offers a comprehensive and in-depth knowledge about the Chinese-speaking world. Spanning Bachelor's, Master's, and doctoral levels, the curriculum equips students with advanced language skills—including modern spoken Chinese and various forms of written and specialized language—as well as a deep understanding of Chinese culture and society, both historically and in contemporary contexts.
Heidelberg Offers You:
- Intensive language training with instructors from the People’s Republic of China and Taiwan: students learn Chinese quickly and efficiently, including modern and classical Chinese, simplified and traditional characters, as well as various dialects (e.g., Cantonese).
- A diverse and interactive range of courses with personalized academic advising and opportunities for specialization in one of six Sinology focus areas.
- A rich program of extracurricular events (e.g., lectures, conferences, cultural events), enabling students to engage with current debates about China in a vibrant academic environment.
