Center for East Asian Studies
East Asia is a region with millennia-old, highly developed cultures and today plays a central role in global politics and economics. At Heidelberg, East Asian Studies explore the societies of the region in their historical development, regional interconnections, and contemporary forms.

About us
The centre was established in 2005 by integrating the institutes of Chinese Studies, Japanese Studies and East Asian Art History as well as the Korean Language Studies. This integration resulted in an excellent framework for organisation, research and teaching.
