Studied Sinology, Japanese Studies, and Ethnology at the Universities of Freiburg, Fu-Jen (Taipei), LMU Munich; Master of Arts (with distinction) and PhD (summa cum laude) at LMU Munich; Habilitation at Freiburg University.
