Korean Studies Prospective career paths

The Bachelor’s degree programme in East Asian Studies with a specialisation in Korean Studies equips students with both subject-specific and interdisciplinary skills that prepare them for a wide range of career paths or graduate degree programmes.

Depending on students' personal interests and areas of focus in the course of their studies, the career paths open to them include, but are not limited to:

  • Completion of a master’s degree with a focus on East Asia at Heidelberg University, e.g. Master of Transcultural Studies
  • Completion of a master’s degree in Korean Studies at another institution, subject to the relevant entry requirements
  • Work in a field related to intercultural exchange, including German institutions abroad such as the Chamber of Industry and Commerce (IHK) or the Goethe-Institut
  • Consultancy and communication in business, politics, and culture
  • Adult education with a focus on East Asia
  • Work in the media sector with a focus on East Asia
  • Marketing, sales, or import and export in companies operating internationally, particularly those with a regional focus on Korea or East Asia
  • Work with an NGO or non-profit organisation with a focus on East Asia
  • Translation, publishing or librarianship

We also provide information on opportunities for study-related internship placements worldwide. Please note that for some of the career fields mentioned, further qualification through a master’s degree programme is a prerequisite.
