Korean Studies Study Abroad in Korea
A period of study abroad in Korea is of great importance for acquiring and developing your language skills. In the Bachelor’s programme in East Asian Studies, the fourth semester is the recommended time to complete a semester abroad. Students who wish to do so have the opportunity to broaden their academic experience by participating in an exchange programme with one of our prestigious Korean partner universities listed below.

Other study abroad opportunities
In addition to the partner universities mentioned above, students have the option of completing a stay at other higher education institutions within the network of the Centre for East Asian Studies. Such exchanges can also be organised through the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD). Detailed information on the relevant requirements and application procedures can be found on the respective information pages.
In addition to a semester abroad completed in Asia, students also have the opportunity to spend a semester at a partner university in Europe through the Erasmus programme.
Additionally, subject-specific cooperations with a number of Korean partner universities have been established; for instance, Heidelberg University and Sungkyunkwan University have been jointly organising a workshop for early-career researchers since 2025. The range of existing cooperations will be further expanded in the future.
