Interviews with Guest Professors
The Heinz Götze Guest Professorship
It is a fortunate and meaningful coincidence that a local benefactor, the Heinz-Götze-Stiftung, has chosen to provide lasting support for the study of Chinese Art History at Heidelberg University. Established in 2004, the foundation is named after Prof. e.h. Dr. Dres. h.c. Heinz Götze (1912–2001), long-time co-owner of the Heidelberg Springer publishing house, who maintained close ties with the Institute of East Asian Art History (IKO) during his lifetime.
Heinz Götze earned international recognition as a distinguished collector of East Asian calligraphy, and his exceptional collection was acquired by the Museum of East Asian Art in Cologne in 1999. The foundation reflects its namesake’s deep appreciation for the historical and cultural connections between Europe and East Asia. Its mission is to advance scholarship and research in the humanities and cultural studies—particularly in archaeology, classical philology, and the art history of China—as well as promoting the art and culture of East Asia.

Heinz Götze Travel Stipend for Students of Chinese Art History
The Heinz-Götze-Stiftung awards travel stipends to MA and doctoral students at the Institute for East Asian Art History once a semester. Students researching topics related to Chinese Art History and wishing to conduct specific research on-site are eligible to apply. Information on deadlines and application procedures can be found on the institute’s grants page.
