Current research project

Vincent Lesch’s research currently focusses on consumer education and consumer protection as part of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in the Japanese education system and society. He focuses on educational policies and frameworks as well as the implementation of consumer education and consumer protection on the micro-level. NPOs play a major role in the area of consumer education and consumer protection as well as the implementation of the SDGs in educational institutions and the Japanese society in general.

Since April 1st, 2022 the legal age of adulthood has changed from 20 to 18 years, moving the importance of informed consumer choices and financial literacy of young Japanese into focus. As a response to the change in law, the implementation of consumer education has been a joined effort of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, the Ministry of Justice, the Financial Services Agency, and the Consumer Affairs Agency. The curriculum on all educational levels has been enhanced since the beginning of 2018 with the goal to teach basic skills as well as create a mindset that enables students to participate in and further develop a sustainable society.
