Hefte für ostasiatische Literatur

Since 1983, Hefte für ostasiatische Literatur (HoL) has made literary texts from China, Japan, and Korea—which are often scarcely accessible in German-speaking countries—available through careful translations and contextualization. In addition to poetry, prose, and drama, the journal features workshop discussions with authors, insights into current literary developments, and a comprehensive bibliography of new German-language publications on East Asian literatures. Despite growing international attention for individual authors, the fundamental mission of HoL remains to broaden horizons by introducing lesser-known voices, including pilot translations and exemplary contextual analyses. Among experts, the HoL is regarded as an established forum for high-quality literary mediation and intercultural exchange. It also offers students the opportunity to publish high-quality translations or essays. The journal is published biannually in May and November by Indicium Verlag in Munich.
