This lecture examines Korea’s economic challenges amid escalating U.S. tariff measures and China’s rapid technological rise. Korea remains vulnerable due to its heavy export
dependence on the United States and China, which together account for over 40 percent of total exports. Renewed tariffs and intensifying technological competition—especially in
semiconductors, electric vehicles, and advanced materials—pose growing risks to Korean industries and global supply chains. In response, Korea is pursuing a shift toward innovation
driven growth, supported by about $15 billion in investment in strategic sectors. The lecture argues that trade diversification, stronger SME competitiveness, and institutional reform are
essential for strengthening Korea’s long-term economic resilience.
