The collection

The Chinese and Japanese Studies Libraries boast a collection of more than 5,000 films. Films from the Chinese Studies department can be found in the HEIDI catalogue. The majority of the film holdings of the Japanese Studies department can be searched for in the Japanese Studies Movie Database; a small portion is catalogued in HEIDI.

Reserving films

In order to watch films, please fill in the order form. You need to enter a valid shelf mark into the form. The shelf mark can be obtained by searching Heidi or the Japanese Film database. The shelf mark has to be entered in the following format:

Without brackets and Institute code <SI>, e.g. only DVD000.101

You will be notified as soon as the film is available (we try to make films available for patrons by the next day).

Watching films

Films you ordered can be watched on any PC/Mac or mobile device, or in the Video Room (R.225) of the Institute of Chinese Studies (reservation required). The room is ideal for screenings for individuals or in small groups of up to ten people. If you would like to watch a film for academic research purposes it is recommended to bring your own laptop. The room is at the disposal of all members of the ZO.

Please note that copying films is prohibited.
