Encyclopedia Database

The Encyclopedia Database is a free and open-access fulltext database containing encyclopedic works of the 19th and 20th centuries from different places in many languages. The purpose of the Encyclopedia Database is to “reveal the hidden grammars of transculturality”. We define encyclopedic writings as works that strive to present a comprehensive account of knowledge. Yet every piece of work is shaped by “hidden grammars”, which means the larger historical background of time and place, the circumstances of writing and publication, as well as people and ideas involved in the creation of a particular piece of work. By unfolding these layers in a clear structure, we want to draw a map of knowledge in space and time, and to trace back the cultural appropriation of key terms and concepts as they unfold their history in encyclopedic writings.

There are currently more than 9.5 million articles/chapters, a content base that is growing at a rate of almost 0.5 million additions per year.

Linguistic Corpus of Sina Weibo Messages

An annotated linguistic Corpus of Sina Weibo messages. The Leiden Weibo Corpus (LWC) contains 5.1 million messages from Sina Weibo, China’s premier Twitter-like microblogging service. Data for the LWC was collected in January 2012. As such, it contains many linguistic phenomena that may not be found in older corpora, such as suffixation with “-ing”, an aspectual marker borrowed from English. Furthermore, Sina Weibo messages come with valuable meta data, such as the gender of the user and his location. This information allows the LWC to calculate how often words are used in different provinces and cities across China, which is useful for research into lexical variation across China. Naturally, the LWC also supports searching for single words or grammar patterns, such as “any verb followed by an aspectual particle and then a noun”. This feature may also be of interest to students and teachers of Mandarin who are looking for example sentences.

Social Science Research Network

The SSRN eLibrary consists of two parts: an Abstract Database containing abstracts on over 384,300 scholarly working papers and forthcoming papers and an Electronic Paper Collection currently containing over 315,000 downloadable full text documents in Adobe Acrobat pdf format.

Database of collectors seals

The database of collectors seals of the National Institute of Japanese Literature contains more than 20.000 records of collectors of Japanese literature. Additionally it includes almost 9000 pictures. It is not only possible to confirm readings of stamps, the identity of the collectors and the span of their collections, but also stamps from bookshops and book lenders have been included, making it possible to trace the trade of historical books and documents during the early modern, the Meiji, Taisho and early Showa period, even up until modern day.

EZB: Electronic Journals Library East Asia

The East Asia Collection of the Electronic Journals Library offers fulltext access to more than 700 journals with relevance to East Asian Studies. The journals are first divided into Chinese Studies, Japanese Studies, East Asian Art History as well as East Asia in general. A monthly journal of art "Mizue" was founded in 1905. The founder Tojiro Oshita is a watercolor artist and he had contributed to the spread of the watercolor painting art in Japan. The main purpose of publishing this title was to promote the study of art especially watercolor painting art. However, the journal also contained many articles on western art as well as Japanese art with plentiful illustrations introducing many artists of those days. Though it ceased publishing in 1922, Mizue is an indispensable and basic material to study modern Japanese art history.

China Development Brief

China Development Brief is a Chinese-language online and print publication started in 1998. It was conceived as an “information platform and capacity building tool” for China’s growing nonprofit and philanthropic sectors. It reports on nonprofit organizations and NGOs engaged in public welfare activities. It carries feature articles and interviews on topics of interest to China’s civil society organizations, and exchanges ideas on topics related to the development of China’s civil society. Quarterly issues of CDB are printed and distributed to Chinese NGOs, researchers, international development agencies, and Chinese government agencies engaged in poverty alleviation, sustainable development and social welfare projects. CDB currently has more than 47,000 subscribers to its online newsletter and 5,000 to its print issues.

JAANUS: Japanese Architecture and Art Net Users System

This dictionary contains approximately 8000 terms related to traditional Japanese architecture and gardens, painting, sculpture and art-historical iconography from approximately the 1st century A.D. to the end of the Edo period (1868). Terms from related fields such as lacquer, ceramics, textiles and metalwork have been included where they are considered to be of general interest and/or impact on the principal fields of architecture, painting and sculpture. Digital Library from the Meiji Era

Image database of the books held by the japanese National Diet Library and published in the Meiji, Taisho and early Showa eras, excluding books in Western languages. The images are not coded, so text searches are not possible; however, Japanese-language searches for the title, author, publisher, subject, and table of contents of the works in the database are possible.

Das "World Bank E-Library Archive" umfasst 2.108 E-Books der Weltbank. Es handelt sich hierbei um Publikationen der Wissenschaftlerinnen und Wissenschaftler der Weltbank. Digital Bibliography of Chinese Buddhism

The bibliography contains 2,273 entries on Chinese-language Buddhist publications dating from 1860 to the 1950s. Information has been sourced from print bibliographies, online catalogues, and first-hand bibliographic research. Each item page includes research links to related resources such as WorldCat, the MFQ(B) article database, and the DDBC Person Authority. Entries can be searched by keyword and the results filtered by publication date. Although other online bibliographies on this topic exist, I hope my contribution will be significant for the thoroughness of its citations and editing, and its links to other useful digital resources.

Korean History: A Bibliography

This bibliography covers many features of Korean history. The subjects include not only political, diplomatic, and economic history, but also historical linguistics, art history, literature, philosophy and religion, and overseas Koreans, for example. Chronologically, coverage concludes in the 1960s. I have not sought to compile a comprehensive list for each subject. Rather, I have provided publications that have appeared since the publication in 1980 of the annotated bibliography Studies on Korea: A Scholar's Guide and recent publications not cited in that work. This bibliography, then, is both an updating of and a supplement to that venerable reference.

Akira Kurosawa Archive (黒澤デジタルアーカイブ)

The archive, put together by Kurosawa’s estate and Ryukoku University Digital Archives Research Center, is a digital collection of over twenty thousand pages of Kurosawa’s screenplays, photos, storyboards, drawings, notes, newspaper clippings, personal scribblings and other materials. Among the high quality scans you can find unfilmed screenplays, screenplay drafts that were later revised, production memos and notes, continuity drawings, and much more. While most of it is in Japanese, there are also some English documents, and of course plenty of pictures to check out.

National Palace Museum Antiquities Digital Archives (故宮器物典藏資料檢索系統 )

Ongoing digitalization project of the National Palace Museum in Taibei, Taiwan. In November 2011, approximately 175.000 museum exhibits had already been added to the database. The entries to the exhibits include photos and explanations as well as information to material, function, size and time period.

Antique Maps of China

The maps included in this database are from the Special Collections of The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology Library.

The Antique Maps of China collection includes more than 230 maps, charts, pictures, books and atlases. It represents almost all samples of China maps produced by European cartographers from the 16th to 19th centuries. This cartographic archive vividly records the long history of cross-cultural exchanges between China and the West.

North China Herald Online (字林星期周刊)

The English North China Herald is universally acclaimed as the prime printed source in any language for the history of the foreign presence in China from around 1850 to the 1940s. During this so-called ‘treaty century’ (1842-1943) the Great Western Powers established a strong presence in China through their protected enclaves in the major cities. It was published in Shanghai, at the heart of China’s dealing with the Euro-American world and a city at the forefront of developments in Chinese politics, culture, education and the economy. As the official journal for British consular notifications, and announcements of the Shanghai Municipal Council, it is the first – and sometimes only – point of reference for information and comment on a range of foreign and Chinese activities. Regularly it also features translations of Chinese official notifications and news. The Herald had correspondents across the whole of China. These supplied a constant stream of news of an incredible variety, such as, apart from news and gossip reflecting the social, cultural and political life of the foreign settlements; trade statistics, stock prices, Chinese news, essays on Chinese culture and language, law reports from foreign courts in the settlements, company reports, news on foreign social, cultural and political life, maps, cartoons, photographs, stock prices and law and company reports, advertisements, tables of tea, silk and cotton exports, or long-forgotten facts about missionaries, birth, marriage, and death announcements, facts about other foreign nationals – the French, Danish, Italian, German, Dutch, and so on. Although a thriving treaty port press developed over the century of the foreign presence, no other newspaper existed over such an extended period, and covers it in such incredible depth and variety. The dense unindexed columns of the Herald offer therefore an indispensable, still largely unexplored treasure-trove for any scholar of modern Chinese history. War, revolution and politics have conspired to destroy library holdings or frustrate access to publications from China’s treaty century. The fully text-searchable North China Herald online is one of the primary sources on a period which continues to shape much of China’s world and worldview.

Freer/Sackler Gallery: Song and Yuan Dynasty Painting and Calligraphy

The Freer Gallery of Art possesses one of the most important collections of Chinese painting outside Asia, and its holdings from the Song and Yuan dynasties (10th–14th centuries) are particularly significant. The collection includes an extraordinary group of eighty-two paintings—illustrating a range of themes, compositions, and stylistic conventions—and three independent works of calligraphy, two of which take the form of rubbings. More than ninety other examples of Song and Yuan calligraphy are featured in frontispieces, inscriptions, or colophons attached to paintings. Many of the eighty-five Freer works have assumed near-iconic status in the study of Chinese brushwork in the West. Despite their exceptional quality, however, most are being thoroughly published for the first time on this website. This pioneering project enables web users around the globe to study these artworks in their entirety and, through the comprehensive documentation of all associated texts and accessories, gain a deeper understanding and appreciation for one of the world's great artistic traditions.

United Daily News (聯合知識庫)

Full text access to all issues of the newspapers 聯合報, 經濟日報, 聯合晚報, upaper, 美洲世界日報, 民生報, 星報 and 歐洲日報 of the Taiwanese news group "United Daily News".

Bejing Review (北京周报)

The resource contains not only the full set of the English version of the Beijing Review (or Peking Review respectively 北京周报) from its first issue in 1958 on, but also the full sets of its printed German, French, Spanish and Japanese equivalents, i.e. the Beijing Rundschau (Peking Rundschau), the Beijing Information (Pekin Information), the 北京周報 (pekin shuho) and the Beijing Informa (Pekin Informa), which all started in 1963/1964 (with the exception of two Japanese issues in 1957) and stopped being published in paper in 2000. They are now continued in electronic form and only the English version has a parallel paper version. These electronic versions are currently not included in the database as is the Chinese version.

Buddhist Authority Database Project (佛學名相規範資料庫)

These databases integrate information from various projects at the Library and Information Center at Dharma Drum Buddhist College. By providing information on Chinese calendar dates, as well as an onomasticon of person and place names from Buddhist sources they help with disambiguation and geo-spatial referencing of names and dates.

China Biographical Database Project (CBDB)

The China Biographical Database is an online relational database with biographical information about approximately 93000 individuals as of September 2010, primarily from the seventh through nineteenth centuries. The data is meant to be useful for statistical, social network, and spatial analysis as well as serving as a kind of biographical reference. The long term goal of CBDB is systematically to include all significant biographical material from China’s historical record and to make the contents available free of charge, without restriction, for academic use.

CRWO is an authoritative, comprehensive and continuously updated encyclopedia database. China Statistical Yearbooks Database (中国统计年鉴数据库)

By 2.2011 the database collected altogether 626 titles in 3428 volumes of statistical yearbooks containing a total of over 1,3 Mio. entries (including 917.096 statistical charts). The database is regularly updated. The entries and charts are downloadable only separately. PDF and XLS are offered.

Chinese Characters Dictionary Web (字典網)

Many of the Chinese dictionaries on the web are interlinked at a character-to-character level, allowing visitors to jump across dictionaries to check the same character entry without having to search again for the character. Chinese-English Dictionary of Modern Usage (當代漢英詞典)

The production of the Web edition of Lin Yutang's Chinese-English Dictionary of Modern Usage is based on the first edition of the work (hereafter called "the original edition") published in 1972 by the Chinese University Press. The dictionary comprises a total of 8,169 head characters, together with 44,407 explanatory entries of grammatical usage and 40,379 entries of Chinese words or phrases.

Nachdem die Katalogisierungsarbeiten im Mai 2005 vorläufig abgeschlossen wurden, präsentieren wir mit dem Verzeichnis chinesischer Collectanea in deutschen Bibliotheken (德國圖書館所藏中文叢書目錄) die Ergebnisse unseres Projekts der Öffentlichkeit. Dieses Verzeichnis weist ca. 31.000 Titel aus 91 Collecantea aus den Beständen der Institute in München und Tübingen sowie der Orient- und Ostasienabteilung der Bayersichen Staatsbibliothek nach.

Gujin Tushu Jicheng (古今圖書集成)

The Gujin tushu jicheng, compiled by Chen Menglei et al. and published with movable copper type in 1726-28, is by far the largest leishu to have been printed (6,109 subsections, 852,408 pages.) Under each subsection excerpts from sources are gathered from the beginnings of writing to the 17th century, from a 18th-century standpoint.

Guoxue baodian (国学宝典)

"Guoxue baodian" is the largest volume in Chinese Classic Literature study. The contents cover most varieties of subjects in Chinese Classical Literature. For example, it covers most valuable contents of SiKuQuanShu WenYuanGe Version, plus more valuable contents and titles. In addition, the database supplies with punctuated traditional and simplified version, with fine illustrations.

Handian: Zdic.net (漢典)

Online dictionary that accepts both simplified and traditional search queries. Entries include pronunciation in both pinyin and zhuyin. Perhaps the best feature is the inclusion of both the Shuowen jiezi 說文解字 and Kangxi zidian 康熙字典.

Historical Laws of Hong Kong Online

The Historical Laws of Hong Kong Online is a full-text image database providing access to past revised editions of Hong Kong Laws. The database comprises a total of seven consolidations of the laws of Hong Kong: 1890, 1901, 1912, 1923, 1937, 1950, and 1964 (last updated to 1989).

With the current Laws of Hong Kong available on the web, the Historical Laws of Hong Kong Online database rightly fills the gap in legal research on the historical development of the law of Hong Kong.

Hong Kong Journals Online

Hong Kong Journals Online (HKJO) is a full-text image database providing access to selected academic and professional journals, both in English and Chinese, published in Hong Kong. Titles included in this database cover a wide range of disciplines including law, medicine and education. The University of Hong Kong Libraries, with a rich collection of Hong Kong journals, developed this database with the objectives of facilitating efficient information retrieval and preserving archival materials. Issues included in this database vary from journal to journal with the earliest going back to 1872. At its first release, more than 170,000 images from over 40 titles will be accessible on the database. More titles with permission granted for digitising their full text will be included to the database. New issues of the titles will also be added as soon as being received. Scholars doing research on Hong Kong will find this an invaluable resource.

Kidai Shôran

This application presents the 12-metre-long Japanese "Kidai Shôran" picture scroll from the early 19th century. The unique work shows Tokyo’s most important trading street at that time. Featuring upwards over 1,000 figures, 40 different shops and hundreds of houses, the brightly coloured scroll is testimony to the rich tapestry of life in the Japan of the early 1800s. The presentation gives visitors the opportunity to interact with the past and experience the multifarious content of the original. Law Info China (北大法律英文网)

The database offers to access to Chinese laws in English translation as well as some hundred case studies, texts of international collective agreements and WTO-documents. Additionally, there are always up-date-news on Chinese legislation, TOCs of official gazettes and learned journals. Searches can be performed either in Enlish or in Chinese. The results may be displayed in both, English and Chinese.

Traditions of Exemplary Women: Lienü zhuan (列女傳)

This project focuses on the Lienü zhuan (Traditions of Exemplary Women) of Liu Xiang (77-6 B.C.), the earliest extant book in the Chinese tradition solely devoted to the moral education of women. The book consists of biographical accounts of female role models in early China and became the standard textbook for women’s education for the next two millennia. The Lienü zhuan offers important insights into the culture, politics, and social structure of early China, as well as into the representation of women in various phases of China’s history. This digital archive serves as a publicly accessible tool for scholarly exploration (in both English and Chinese) of women’s social, legal, and ritual status as represented in the early phase of Chinese history.

NCIKU (n词酷)

NCIKU is a Chinese-English and English-Chinese online dictionary aimed at English speakers who are learning Chinese. At the moment it mainly uses Simplified characters, although the Traditional versions of some words are given.

Policies and laws of China (中国法律法规)

The database gives full-text access to juridical material from the foundation of the PRC in 1949 until the present day. By 12.2010 the database included 357.426 items coming from the areas of national, administrational and regional law and regulations, but also contains international treaties as well as conventions, judicial interpretations and analysis of cases etc. The database is updated regularly (see the Wanfang data main page 首页 for latest update and number of current entries).

Qiushi Magazine:

Qiushi ("Seeking truth") is the main organ of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of the PRC. From late 2009 on the journal - or excerpts from the journal - also appear in English. The database gives access to the searchable full text of the English edition. PDF for download are provided. The predecessor "Hongqi 红旗", may be accessed here.

SAT Daizōkyō Text Database (大正新脩大藏經)

Full text of 85 volumes of Taishō Shinshū Daizōkyō (大正新脩大藏經)one of the most important editions of the Chinese Buddhist Canon and its Japanese commentaries used by scholars in the 20th century.

Scripta Sinica (漢籍電子文獻)

The project for the Scripta Sinica database began in 1984. The first aim of this project was to digitize all documents essential to research in traditional Sinology. Secondly, a full-text database was established for academic research. Until present, Scripta Sinica is the largest Chinese full text database to encompass an enormous breadth of historical materials of this scale.

More than 460 titles （new titles） and 402,000,000 characters of materials pertaining to the traditional Chinese classics have been included in the database and have been categorized with meticulous care. The Scripta Sinica database contains almost all of the important Chinese classics, especially those related to Chinese history. In the future, we will continue with the digitalization of more historical materials, and add new features to the system. We hope to provide scholars, students, and the general public with an excellent full-text database and search engine for the study of Chinese history and culture.

Sibu congkan (四部丛刊)

This completely web-based database comprises two outstanding and huge publications of the 1920s and 1930ies that assembled hundreds of representative traditional or pre-1912 Chinese books, i.e. the Sibu congkan 四部叢刊 ("Printed Collection of the Four Branches of Literature") and the Sibu beiyao 四部備要 ("Essentials of the Four Branches of Literature").

Song Research Tools

Song Research Tools is a guide to bibliographies, indexes, dictionaries, encyclopedias, atlases and chronologies of use to those interested in all aspects of Chinese society during the Song Dynasty (960-1279). Peter Bol, Harvard College Professor and Charles H. Carswell Professor of East Asian Languages and Civilizations at Harvard University, published the first edition of Sung Research Tools in 1990. With the publication of the online guide in 2003 Song Research Tools went into its third edition. The online edition, last updated in November 2006, contains more than 200 new titles.

Visualizing Early Chinese Landscape Painting: A Lecture Series

This videotaped and moving-image lecture series, conceived by U.C. Berkeley Professor Emeritus James Cahill, is a legacy of his life's work in the history of the visual arts of China. Composed of short introductions and over 2,200 detailed high-resolution images of selected Chinese paintings and works of pictorial art from the early period up to the end of the Song dynasty in the late thirteenth century, this series was written and narrated entirely by Professor Cahill. For ease of viewing, the lectures contain chapter markers identifying the major works of art discussed. In addition, the names of some artists and works are given in pinyin and traditional and simplified Chinese characters. Lecture notes, which provide further information on the topics discussed as well as suggested readings, accompany the video files. The goal of the project, which began in 2009 and continues into 2011, is the creation of approximately 34 hours of multimedia lecture-style presentations. The first six lectures (in seven files), each lasting one to two hours, are now available.

Western Books on China

This new online collection comprises a descriptive, annotated bibliography of 654 early Western books on Imperial China up to 1850, all to be found in the Library of the School of Oriental and African Studies, London. The collection is based on the book Western Books on China published up to 1850 by John Lust.

The material is of unique historical interest, containing scrutiny of China by Western societies. The material contains an abundance of observations. The books, in a variety of Western languages, testify to the formidable difficulties encountered by Westerners, who attempted to extend their own familiar historical, linguistic and religious perceptions to the Chinese context.

In 1987 the project was published by IDC on microfiche. Now the collection is completely digitized to be published in an online subscription-based environment. The collection offers advanced research tools, such as MARC applications for the bibliographical material. Sources are now ranged by subject and all texts are fully readable. Search on title, author, language, year and place of publication is all possible. All pages can be printed and downloaded.

Harvard Visual Information Access (VIA)

VIA (Visual Information Access) is a growing online union catalog documenting the arts, material culture, and social history. VIA contains descriptive records and images representing paintings, sculpture, photography, drawings, prints, architecture, decorative arts, trade cards, rubbings, theater designs, maps and plans. Participating repositories include archives, museums, libraries, and other collections throughout Harvard University. New material is added to VIA daily.

Naxi manuscripts collection

Original materials were acquired by Joseph Francis Charles Rock (1884-1962) and Quentin Roosevelt (1919-1948). The Harvard-Yenching Library's holdings (510 from Joseph Rock and 88 from Quentin Roosevelt together with three long funereal scrolls) were acquired by Harvard-Yenching Institute in 1945.

Historical Note:
The Naxi (Chinese people) are an ethnic minority in the northwestern part of Yunnan Province in China, near the borders of Tibet and Burma. The population is estimated to be around 250,000, and made up largely of farmers and traders. The Naxi language is the only remaining living pictographic language today.

Chinese Pamphlets: a digital collection

Political Communications and Mass Education in China in the Early Years of the People’s Republic

The holdings at the Center for Research Libraries are especially rich in primary documents of political communications. The pamphlets, reports, newspapers, and other kinds of printed materials held by CRL chronicle the activities of political figures, parties and organizations around the globe. Such documents are vital source materials for history and area studies, but tend to be produced erratically and disappear quickly.

The Hunter Collection consists of mass education materials published in Hong Kong and in Mainland China, particularly Shanghai, in the years 1947-1954. These include approximately 200 cartoon books, pamphlets, postcards, and magazines, heavily pictorial in content, on such topics as foreign threats to Chinese security, Chinese relations with the Soviet Union, industrial and agricultural production, and marriage reform. The materials were produced by both Kuomintang (Chinese Nationalist) and Communist regimes, and appear to be directed at the general youth and adult populations of China.

Chinese Women's Magazines in the Late Qing and Early Republican Period

This database of the Heidelberg Research Architecture (HRA) is linked to a collaborative project funded by the Social Science and Humanities Research Council of Canada and the German Humboldt Foundation. The primary objective of the project is to restore complexity to early-twentieth-century Chinese history by liberating that history from its own reductive discourses on the failings of tradition and the promise of modernity. Our instrument and object of investigation is the popular press, a new medium that dominated the contemporary print market and became one of the prime sites for the dissemination of knowledge and the production of culture. In particular, our focus is on four seminal women's or gendered journals—a key genre of the popular media—published between 1904 and 1937. They include Nüzi shijie (Women's World, 1904-07), Funü shibao (The Women's Eastern Times, 1911-17), Funü zazhi (The Ladies' Journal, 1915-31), and Linglong (Elegance, 1931-37).

Taiwan Archives of the Office of the Chief Executive (行政長官公署檔案)

The Office of the Taiwan Chief Executive was the special governmental organization set up by the National Government in the early years after World war II, and was mainly occupied with property expropriation and rebuilding affairs. The files of the Office ofthe Taiwan Chief Executive were divided into permanent records and ordinary records, with the content spanning all sorts of documents transferred between departments, committees, bureaus and regional governments. These are further distinguised by type into official records, mail records, and addenda, totaling nearly 320,000 pages in almost 5,525 volumes. The content covers expropriation measures, governmental guidelines, legal declaimations and personnel records, and has historical value in the knowledge of Taiwan's political, social, and economical evolution in the years after the war.

Digital Archive of Bronze Rubbings (青銅器拓片數位典藏)

Fu Ssu-Nien Library of the Institute of History and Philology holds more than 10,000 bronze rubbings (bronze script rubbings) which are the treasured collections of the famous connoisseurs Liu Li-zh and Chen Jie-chi from the late Ch'ing to the early Republic of China. Many of these rubbings were made by the renown artisans Chou Kang-yuan and Wang Siou-ren themselves. These beautifully made and carefully sealed rubbings, not only preserving the scripts, decorative patterns and shapes of many bronze artefacts, but also recording the remarks and seals of many past collectors and reviewers, are great works of art. In order to improve both the public access to these precious rubbings and their preservation condition, the Institute has worked hard on their digitalisation for public use on line. In 2004 the Institute officially announced its Bronze Rubbings Digital Archives at a conference on bronze and stone.

East Asian Library and the Gest Collection: Medical Texts (普林斯頓大學葛思德東亞圖書館)

The East Asian Library of Princeton University has for the past few years been engaged in the digitization of some of its rare titles, or rare editions of titles, most recently as part of a Chiang Ching-kuo Foundation-funded cooperative project with the Harvard-Yenching Library of Harvard University, the Library of Congress, and the Fu Sinian Library of the Academia Sinica.

Chinese Posters: Propaganda, Politics, History, Art

chineseposters.net is dedicated to the Chinese propaganda poster as it has been produced from 1925 till the present day. These posters literally cry out to be seen. We present them in a gallery of highlights, in web exhibitions ("To Read Too Many Books is Harmful"), and in themes. The site provides over 1.300 images as well as additional information in artists' biographies, a bibliography and a selection of texts on Chinese art, propaganda and posters.
